You’re a rider with ambition.
You’re training ambitiously, maybe starting competitions or working up to it, and you would like to climb to greater heights. You’d love to grow in your sport in harmony with your horse.
And you have a nice big healthy dose of debilitating self-doubt.
Even though your head tells you it’s good to be ambitious, a voice in your head keeps telling you that you’re not good enough. That everybody’s talking behind your back. That you’re bad to the horse you love so much.
It’s devastating but surprisingly common in ambitious riders.
How do you recognize if you have what I call the Ambitious Rider Syndrome?
You’re often self-conscious whenever you get on your horse and often wish no-one could see you train
You’re super hard on yourself and get angry and disappointed when you make mistakes
You’re extremely nervous long before a competition. Sometimes even for weeks.
The idea that other people can see you riding and making mistakes drives you up the wall so much that the pressure causes you to make even more mistakes
You’re afraid even your horse suffers from your incompetence
"Some riders change their horse, their saddle, their trainer,
but they never change themselves."
It’s not going to go away if you ignore it...
The Ambitious Rider Syndrome is a debilitating mental block that can cause a constantly nagging background hum of stress, unhappiness and lack of progress in your riding. If nothing is done about it, it often causes riders to train less effectively, spend longer and longer training in awkward frustration, and even cause their horses to get injured because of it.
I know. I’ve seen it happen. It’s not pretty. But it is also nothing to be ashamed of. More importantly: it’s nothing that can’t be solved with a solid toolbox of mental techniques, a good training regime, a sprinkle of tough love and a positive, self-reflective attitude.
I’ve made it my personal mission to help riders like you build their own mental toolbox that will help them unlock the care-free, progress-oriented, happy equestrian within. Looking for a great way to start. Take a look at my free downloads?
